XCOM 2 is Soon Getting the Long War Treatment

XCOM: Enemy Unknown was a very good reboot of the popular TBS series that got even better with the introduction of the Long War mod. In fact, it’s almost mandatory to play the game alongside said mod as it greatly enhances the experience in almost every way. Needless to say, the game’s sequel, XCOM 2, could also benefit from such a mod, and it sounds like it will soon get it. Long War Studios, the developers of the original mod, have recently announced that they are partnering with Firaxis and 2K Games in order to create something similar for XCOM 2.

Simply entitled Long War 2, the upcoming mod will be free of charge for everyone who owns the PC version of XCOM 2. The developers haven’t revealed too many details just yet regarding the mod, but they did say that we should keep an eye on the official website and expect more information to arrive in the coming weeks. So far, the company already has a few smaller XCOM 2 mods under its belt in the form of the Alien Pack, the Perk Pack, and the Laser Pack, all of which can be found on Steam. Long War 2, however, will no doubt be much bigger and more interesting than any of those.

Aside from confirming Long War 2, the company also took the opportunity to announce a name change. According to a post on their website, the developers are now known as Pavonis Interactive. The change was made in an attempt to distance themselves a bit from the modding scene and attract a bit of attention towards their other projects. Currently, Pavonis Interactive is already working on a full-length game entitled Terra Invicta alongside Long War 2. Terra Invicta is a grand strategy game centered around an alien invasion, not unlike XCOM 2. Check out the upcoming game’s official description down below.

“An alien force has arrived in the far reaches of Solar System and begun probing Earth’s defenses and building an invasion fleet. The player must assemble a council of scientists, politicians, military leaders and operatives who can unite Earth’s squabbling nations with the ultimate goal of taking the fight to the aliens in the high ground of outer space.”
