With Batman v Superman launching later this month it’s sometimes easy to forget that there will be plenty more great movies for superhero and fantasy fans this year. Luckily, producers like to remind us of this fact by revealing a new trailer every once in a while. Such is the case with Warcraft and X-Men Apocalypse, two highly anticipated movies that have received fresh new trailers just hours ago. I don’t want to blabber too much here so just check out the new Warcraft trailer below and then we can discuss it a bit once you’re done.
As it’s usually the case with trailers, there are plenty of scenes here that we already saw in older videos, however, there’s also some new and exciting footage to gaze upon. For the most part we’re still looking at various conflicts between Orcs and Humans, which is to be expected since that’s the main theme of Warcraft. What’s more interesting about this new trailer in my opinion is that we finally get our first good look at a Dwarf, though it’s hard to say exactly who he is or if he plays an important part in the movie. Given that Anduin seems to be in Ironforge during that scene, we can only assume that he is there to strike an alliance with the Dwarves in order to help his people in their fight against the Orcs. Meanwhile, a different scene in Stormwind shows what appear to be High Elves, so it seems like Warcraft will not be just about the initial conflict between Humans and Orcs, but also about how the original Alliance came to be. On the other side of the fence, the Orcs still appear to be flying solo, but hopefully the movie will end up giving us at least a few glimpses of other Horde races like Trolls or Tauren.
As for X-Men Apocalypse, the new trailer is once again mainly focused on the origins and awakening of En Sabah Nur, better known as Apocalypse. This time around we get a few more glimpses at how the powerful mutant used to look like several thousands of years ago before going into slumber and beginning his transformation. The first part of the trailer focuses almost entirely on the titular antagonist and his Four Horsemen, which in this particular movie are Storm, Psylocke, Archangel, and Magneto. Interestingly, we also get to see how the Horsemen looked before they were recruited by Apocalypse – Storm without the iconic white hair and Archangel with regular wings instead of metal ones. Then, the second part of the trailer is mostly about the X-Men and it reveals a few more interesting scenes starring newcomers Nightcrawler, Cyclops and Jean Grey as well as returning favorites like Quicksilver, Mystique and Professor X. Sadly, Jubilee doesn’t appear to be in the new X-Men Apocalypse trailer, though it’s possible that I just missed her. Let me know in the comments below if that’s the case.
Warcraft launches on June 10 while X-Men Apocalypse will be hitting the theaters a bit earlier on May 27. Stay tuned for more.
