Elite Dangerous PS4 Version Set to Arrive Late Next Month

Elite Dangerous, Frontier Developments’ open world space sim is finally getting a PS4 release next month. As I’m sure many of you already know, the game has been out for some time on PC and Xbox One thanks to a temporary exclusivity deal with Microsoft. This will no longer be an issue soon, however, as Elite Dangerous is launching on PS4 on June 27 according to the developers. The game will be available in both digital and physical format for $30 or your regional equivalent. There’s also the $25 Horizons Season Pass for those interested in adding a bunch of extra content to their base game.

The PS4 version of Elite Dangerous doesn’t come with anything particularly interesting when compared to its PC and Xbox One counterparts, however, I’m sure a lot of gamers will be glad to be able to play a decent space sim on their consoles. After the whole No Man’s Sky debacle last year, some players might (understandably) be skeptical when it comes to these games, but there’s no real reason to worry about this one. Elite Dangerous has been out for a while and is currently sitting at 80/100 on Metacritic on both PC and Xbox One. For $30 it might be worth looking into if you’re a fan of the genre.

Unfortunately, the game won’t support PSVR at launch but that could very well change in the near future. According to the Frontier Developments, “Elite Dangerous is a flagship VR game on PC so of course, VR is important to us. It’s definitely something we’re looking into, but we have nothing to announce for launch.” It doesn’t exactly sound like a confirmation but at least the developers are considering the possibility.

The PS4 version of Elite Dangerous isn’t up for pre-order just yet but you’ll be able to secure your copy starting with May 30.
