After Long War 2 was released we thought we wouldn’t hear anything else about XCOM 2 for a while. Well, we were wrong. Firaxis took fans by surprise at E3 2017 by announcing a new expansion that adds a lot of additional content to the game. While the expansion dubbed War of the Chosen was indeed teased a few days prior to E3, we had no idea that it would be this massive. War of the Chosen is said to be at least twice as big as any previous XCOM 2 DLC and that’s putting it mildly. The expansion adds new enemies, classes, factions, missions, maps, and much more.
One of the main highlights of this expansion are the Chosen themselves, three very powerful new enemies that will stop at nothing as they attempt to take down XCOM. Much like your own soldiers, each Chosen has different strengths and will get progressively more powerful as the game advances. To make things worse, War of the Chosen also introduces a number of other new enemies to XCOM 2, such as the Priest, the Purifier, the Spectre, and The Lost. Interestingly enough, the latter are actually former humans that have been transformed into zombie-like creatures before the events of XCOM 2. The Lost tend to travel in hordes and can quickly overrun your soldiers, however, the good news is that they will attack anything that moves, including any nearby aliens. Use that to your advantage.
There are certainly plenty of new threats to contend with in the new XCOM 2 expansion, but don’t worry because you won’t be alone in this fight. War of the Chosen introduces three new factions to the game known as the Hunters, the Reapers, and the Skirmishers, respectively. Each new faction provides powerful hero class soldiers that will fight alongside your regular troops. That said, these new factions are very different from one another so you’ll first need to focus on establishing diplomatic relations and eventually convince them to join the fight against ADVENT and the Chosen.
Those are just some of the highlights coming soon to XCOM 2 but there’s a lot more where that came from so keep an eye on the official website if you want to learn more. War of the Chosen is set to launch on August 29 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
