We’ve heard a lot about En Sabah Nur these last few months, but as everyone who is familiar with the X-Men universe knows all too well, the powerful mutant starring in the upcoming X-Men Apocalypse isn’t complete without his four horsemen. The horsemen are usually brainwashed mutants that are recruited by Apocalypse to serve as his vanguard and they are given enhanced powers in order to better fulfil their purpose. In the case of X-Men Apocalypse, director Bryan Singer picked Storm, Psylocke, Angel, and Magneto to fill the shoes of Famine, War, Pestilence, and Death. We already saw the four horsemen in action several times in the trailers, but now we get to take an even better look at them thanks to four new posters that depict them in great detail. Check them out below (click to enlarge).
Interestingly enough, Angel is the only one of the four mutants to be transformed into a horseman in the comic books, albeit Storm and Magneto both assumed that role as well in the popular animated series X-Men: Evolution. Either way, it looks like Brian Synger wants to do something special and different here by picking three horsemen that diehard comic book may find a little surprising. Magneto, in particular, was a very interesting choice given his roles in First Class and Days of Future Past where he was actually quite likeable at times. Now it seems like Synger wants to make it more difficult for fans to root for the villain in X-Men Apocalypse as it will become next to impossible to reason with him while under the influence of En Sabarh Nur. In the aforementioned animated series Magneto actually joined Professor X and the others to fight against Apocalypse when he first awoke, though the ancient mutant quickly dispatched all of them in spite of their combined forces.
Just in case you missed it, you can watch the latest trailer for X-Men Apocalypse below. X-Men Apocalypse launches on May 27.
